Where Australia Collides with Asia
Explore Where Australia Collides with Asia with author Ian Burnet
Join Jeffrey Mellefont, founding editor of Signals and Honorary Research Associate at the ANMM, ‘In Conversation’ with author Ian Burnet about his book Where Australia Collides with Asia. This book follows the epic natural-history voyages of Joseph Banks, Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace – and of the wandering Continent Australia itself.
It was independent co-discoverer of evolution Alfred Russel Wallace who realised that the strait between Bali and Lombok represents the bio-geographical boundary between the distinctive faunas of Asia and Australasia, and it was Wallace’s ideas on the origin of species that forced Darwin to finally publish his landmark work.
Explore the lives of three titanic naturalists with the man who has brought their stories and struggles to life.
Date: Thursday 2 August 2018, 2pm - 4pm.
Cost: Members $20, Adults $35.
Includes: Afternoon tea.
