    Join us for our biggest summer adventure yet. Time-travelling theatre shows, hands-on workshops, interactive exhibitions and more. It’s fun for the whole family!

    And with handy facilities like a takeaway kiosk, cafe, picnic benches and harbour-side wharf area, the Maritime Museum is hard to beat for summer fun with the kids.

    Voyage to the Deep

    Dive in and grab the wheels of a steampunk submarine, hunt for treasure in a sunken shipwreck, explore a giant kelp forest, and crank the propellers to escape from a giant squid. 

    Going Places

    Challenge your friends to a cycling race, climb into the cockpit and control your own aeroplane, fly a remote control airship and discover the inner workings of a fiery combustion engine. 

    Beautiful Whale

    9:30am - 5pm, daily. More info

    Come eye-to-eye with whales at sea in this remarkable photographic exhibition. American artist Bryant Austin is the only photographer in the world producing life-size photographs of whales.

    Climb aboard our real-life secret and stealthy submarine HMAS Onslow moored right outside the museum in Darling Harbour, as well as the HMB Endeavor, HMAS Onslow & HMAS Vampire

    Under 5s Tours: Aquanaut Adventurers!

    Explore the world of submarines, creatures that live deep under the sea and shipwrecks’ sunken treasure in a series of special character tours for under 5s and their carers.

    Experience our summer exhibition in a special after hours theatrical family tour with character guide Captain Nemo. 

    Youth workshop Monster Mash: Short film making workshop

    Create your own imaginative short films. Learn to storyboard, film, direct and edit and have your work featured on our Youtube channel. 

    Youth Workshop Photo Story: Snap! Spy! Submarine

    10am – 3pm, 21 January only. Book now

    Be inspired by our submarines (real and and fictional) in this workshop on digital SLR photography. Experiment with storytelling, fantasy and representation as you learn.

    Join in a day of family fun inspired by our Voyage to the Deep exhibition (see below). Lively performances, film screenings, character tours and face painting. 

    Ghostnets weaving: Artmaking Workshops

    Join us for free drop in sessions to weave beautiful sea creatures out of recycled materials for display in our summer exhibition.

    Take your seats for an action-packed live theatre performance. Travel back in time with a cast of quirky characters inspired by 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas and take part in daring escapes from ravenous creatures, time travelling volcanoes and swirling ocean storms.

    Free Family Film: Ponyo

    An amazing underwater adventure for all ages. Ponyo is a young and overeager goldfish princess who escapes her home to become human...

    Cabinet of Curiosities: Shipwreck Stories

    Explore wonderful and curious specimens and artefacts in this interactive discovery device in our galleries.

    Peer up periscopes, play, create and discover at with art making, interactive games and dress ups! 


  • Vacation Care Programs

    Vacation Care Programs

    The museum offers interesting vacation care programs – that are great value! Vacation care groups can enjoy organised activities every school holidays. Stay all day or come for a few hours.


    Programs can include:
    • Exhibitions
    • Kids on Deck activities where children (5–12) can get creative with art-making activities, craft, dress-ups, science activities and interactive games. The program changes every term.
    • Entry to the destroyer HMAS Vampire, the submarine HMAS Onslow and HMB Endeavour.
    • Entry to performance programs such as storytelling and circus, Cabinet of Curiosities and more.
    • Free entry for 2 adults per 10 children
    • Free bus parking
    • Cost: $10 per child (for groups of 10 children or more)
    • $4 extra/child for 1874 tall ship James Craig.
