    Swashbuckle at the museum this summer with exhibitions, vessel tours, hands-on workshops, themed creative activities, performances and more. It’s fun for everyone!

    This season we are all about pesky, pernicious pirates! Daily activities include art making, games and dress ups in Kids on Deck, exploring touchable objects and artefacts at the Cabinet of Curiosities, participating in lively and interactive kids theatre performances, relaxing with a family film screenings and more.

    Theatre Show

    Calico Jack and the Pirate Cat theatre show 

    Hoist the main sail and get set for adventure as we take to the seas with infamous golden age Carribean Pirate Calico Jack in this lively and interactive theatre show.

    Daily except Saturdays, 3–24 January 2016

    Kids on Deck

    Children in pirate costume

    Play, create and discover in Kids on Deck, an activity space with art making, games and dress ups. Craft a terrific tall ship, sculpt a swashbuckling accessory or design a temporary tattoo.

    Under 5s tours

    Kids in pirate costume

    Dive in and explore curious creatures, hidden treasure and more in special character tours for under 5s and their carers. Enjoy stories, songs and move and dance through the galleries.

    Cabinet of curiosities at the maritime museum

    Touch and discover curious and terrible weapons, dress, and navigational tools related to the Golden age of piracy in this hands on discovery device in the galleries.

    TV Presenting Workshop

    Film workshop at the maritime museum

    Join filmmaker Nicola Walkerden for this two-day workshop. Learn to script, film, present and edit your own pirate-inspired TV segment.

    DJ workshop at the maritime museum

    Remix, reverb and record your own Horrible Histories Pirates inspired songs in a fun filled workshop on digital music making. Learn professional music editing and compositing techniques.

  • Vacation Care Programs

    Vacation Care Programs

    The museum offers great value vacation care programs. Vacation care groups can enjoy organised activities every school holidays. Stay all day or come for a few hours.

    Programs can include:
    • Exhibitions
    • Kids on Deck activities where children (5–12) can get creative with art-making activities, craft, dress-ups, science activities and interactive games. The program changes every term.
    • Entry to the destroyer HMAS Vampire, the submarine HMAS Onslow and HMB Endeavour.
    • Entry to performance programs such as storytelling and circus, Cabinet of Curiosities and more.
    • Free entry for 2 adults per 10 children
    • Free bus parking
    • Cost: $10 per child (for groups of 10 children or more)
    • $4 extra/child for 1874 tall ship James Craig.
