    Join us for special themed family fun Sundays twice a term with creative activities, lively performances, character tours and face painting. 

    Hoots Harbour

    Sunday 21 August, 11am–4pm

    Join us as we celebrate International Lighthouse and Lightship weekend with visiting vessels and creative activities for the whole family. 


    11am–3pm Kids on Deck: Play, create and discover with art making, games and dress ups.

    Craft your own lighthouse model, make harbour prints, a tugboat sculpture or a souvenir badge. Experiment with reflectors and circuits to make a working light-keepers lantern or learn morse code ciphers.
    11am–3pm Visiting working harbour vessels: Take a harbour cruise on Sydney Heritage Fleet’s historic motor launches Berrima and Harman

    See the adorable open steam launch Choof N Puff as it toots, chugs and donuts its way around our basin.
    11am–3.30pm Face painting: Have your face painted with nautical inspired designs.
    Climb up the Cape Bowling Green Lighthouse, See the Carpentaria from the wharf: Free with any ticket or gold coin donation to climb the lighthouse.
    11am, 12pm, 2.30pm Harbour Hoots Family Tours with Captain Shawn Scuttlebutt: Join character guide Captain Shawn Scuttlebutt for a fun filled family friendly tour and games around the museum’s harbour to discover the story behind our visiting vessels and our three lights- Cape Bowling Green, Carpentaria and the Tasman Light.
    11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm
    Lighthouse circus workshops and show: Flash, spin, twirl and hoop! Join in interactive circus arts workshops inspired by the movements of lighthouses and harbour vessels.
    10.30–11.30am & 3–4pm
    Have your photo with Blinky-the Lighthouse on legs: See if you can find our friendly red and white striped lighthouse roaming the shores of the museum for a picture perfect moment!
     2pm-4pm  Lighthouse Larks- Science Cart: Investigate the harbour environment with interactive experiments and demonstrations to show how seagulls fly, how boats float, how a lighthouse works and ways of watching weather.

    3 April 2016 - Marvellous Movers

    Steam, steer, sail and soar! Join us for a special day of family fun celebrating marvellous movers in our collection.

    Enjoy a boat ride on visiting steam launch Lady Hopetoun, join an interactive circus workshop, take a family-friendly character tour through the galleries or get creative with crafty fun and face painting in Kids on Deck. 

    14 February 2016 - Row Row Regattas

    Celebrate Lunar New Year and all the grand traditions of dragon boat racing and sailing regattas at the Museum’s special family fun day, Row Row Regattas!

    Enjoy spectacular Lion dance performances, musical storytelling, on water displays, facepainting and creative arts and craft activities.

    Stay and enjoy the Lunar New Year celebrations at the Lunar Markets, 4pm–9pm in Pyrmont Park.

    This event is part of the City of Sydney’s 2016 Chinese New Year festival.

    Sunday 17 January - Pirate Invasion Family Fun Day

    Shiver me timbers, the pirates are here! Explore the history of the Golden Age of Piracy with authentic displays of 17th and 18th century pirates at battle, at play and at work. Join our special guest historical re-enactors and come dressed in your buccaneering best for a day of family fun at the museum. 

    Action Stations Family Fun Extravaganza

    To celebrate the launch of our all-new immersive experience Action Stations we're running a whole month of family fun Sunday events saluting to all things navy and nautical. Enjoy a range of creative activities including face painting, performances, displays by the Royal Australian Navy and more.

    Every Sunday in November & 6 December

    Make the most of our Kids Go Free promotion. Children aged 16 and under can enjoy FREE Big Ticket entry every day, all day, right through November. Includes access to Action Stations! 

    Sunday 13 September - Talk Like A Pirate

    Get ready for the International Talk like a Pirate celebrations with a day of swashbuckling fun at the museum. Dress in your buccaneer best for a chance to win great prizes, take a treasure hunt, meet a historic Pirate re-enactor, join in interactive circus games, create pirate crafts, enjoy face painting and more.
