    About

    Every month, Mini Mariners welcomes 2-5-year-olds and their parents/carers. Expect lots of fun with games, crafts, story time, tours and more. Our interactive gallery tours are led by a costumed guide and there is art-making and free play in our themed activity space.

    Celebrate Children's Week at the museum

    Join the museum and Playgroup NSW in celebrating Children’s Week at the Australian National Maritime Museum with special programs for children 0-6 years and their carers starting Monday 24 through to Wednesday 26 October. Find out more.


    September: W is for Wildlife

    A is for anemone, Z is for Zebrafish. Take a journey through the alphabet of all things furry, feathered and finned as we spot amazing animals in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. 

    Enjoy touch tours with creature specimens, movement, songs, games, craft and free play in our themed activity space. Make your own block printed tote bag, animal puppet or hat to take home.

    Date: Tuesdays 6, 13, 20 and Saturday 17 September

    Alphabet Animals - Toddler Tours

    Discover animal photos and specimens on display at the museum with movement, songs and storytime in a fun and interactive learning program especially designed for toddlers. 

    If you arrive early you can explore the galleries and our Mini Mariners Play! Space or grab a coffee from our Kiosk or Yots cafe. Afterwards head to Kids on Deck for crafts and messy play.

    General Information

    Please meet at the foyer 5–10 minutes before the program and collect your sticker from the front desk. If you arrive early or want to stay longer, you can explore our galleries (included in your ticket) and our Mini Mariners Play space or grab a coffee from the Kiosk or Yots cafe.

    Ticket Information

    Prices: $8.50 per child, first adult $3.50, additional adults $7 (including Galleries Ticket). FREE for Members.

    Mini Mariners antarctic adventures

    Join your character guides as we tap and waddle like a penguin, clap like a seal and jump like a Humpback whale, travelling through the galleries to learn about Antarctic Animals. Enjoy story time, games and songs. Make a penguin puppet, a whale mobile or paint a seal to take home.

    Sail around the world!

    Pack your bags for an imaginative journey on the high seas in a special character tour for under 5s and their carers. Learn about different types of boats and cultures from across the sea. Sing songs, dance the hula and enjoy storytime. Then you can create your own paper lei or paint a sail boat to take home.

    Aquanaut Adventurers!

    Explore the world of submarine adventurers and creatures that live under the sea! Dance through the galleries, sing songs, and enjoy storytime. Experiment with special science activities, make your own explorer goggles or painted submarine to take home.

     

    Pirates Ahoy!

    Let's follow the treasure map around the museum to find the secret treasure cave. Learn how to sing, dance and scrub the deck like a pirate. Then you can decorate your own pirate hat or parrot puppet to take home.
