Between the Flags: 100 Years of Surf Lifesaving

Past exhibition

Commemorating the centenary of surf lifesaving in Australia, this exhibition provides an insight into the community of dedicated surf lifesavers whose bravery has helped save over 500,000 lives in the past 100 years.

Gain a personal insight into the lifesaving movement through stories of the people who patrol our beaches. See how surf lifesaving and equipment have changed over 100 years, with surfboats, belts and reels, march-past costumes and trophies, images of lifesavers in action, as well as historical and contemporary film footage.

Between the Flags: 100 Years of Surf Lifesaving has been developed by the National Museum of Australia, Canberra, in collaboration with Surf Life Saving Australia and is supported by Visions of Australia, an Australian Government Program supporting touring exhibitions.

Exhibition shown at Australian National Maritime Museum 8 March - 29 April 2007.
