Welcome Wall

caption: Record your family's life-changing journey on the Welcome Wall

In one of history's great migrations, more than six million people have crossed the world to settle in Australia.

Was your family among them?

We invite you to record a name on the Welcome Wall at the Australian National Maritime Museum. The Welcome Wall honours our immigrants, however they travelled, wherever they landed and wherever they live today. It costs just $105 to inscribe your name in bronze on the Welcome Wall. This includes a personal 50-word record of your family's story on the Welcome Wall website, where friends and family across the world can see it. Commemorate your friends or family who made the break to Australia!

Every six months the museum unveils new names inscribed on the Welcome Wall - everyone is invited. View images from past unveilings.

How to register

It costs $105 (including GST) to register one individual or family name. You can even buy a gift registration for a friend!

For a name to appear on the Welcome Wall, the person must have been born overseas and settled in Australia. You can register with as little information as the person's name and place of origin.

Only the registered person's name will appear on the Welcome Wall. Once you have registered, you can also include a 50-word story about the person, along with arrival and other personal details. This optional information is held on our database and appears on the Welcome Wall website. It can be submitted at any time.

About the Welcome Wall project

The Welcome Wall is 100 metres long and made of bronze. It sits at the ANMM near Pyrmont docks, where millions of new settlers first stepped ashore in Australia.

An online database stores historical information about the people named on the Welcome Wall, when and how they came, who they came with and where they lived. These stories are also shared with ANMM visitors on kiosks in the museum foyer.
