The Australian Register of Historic Vessels (ARHV) presents vessels of all types and sizes built up to 1965 which are significant to Australia’s maritime heritage. It features information on their designers, builders and owners, as well as the social and geographical context in which they have existed. On the ARHV, vessels are used as the key to exploring their wider backgrounds.

All vessels built up to 1965 which meet a set of assessment criteria. [1965 has been chosen as the cut-off date because it marks the start of the era of mass production. It also helps us manage the number of boats. Some significant vessels built after 1965 are included.] Vessels of all types and lengths, from dinghies, and small Indigenous craft, to sea-going ships. Vessels which have a known provenance - history of ownership. The ARHV does not include wrecks or replicas.
