It’s easy to get to and around our museum precinct, but to make the most of your visit, get to know the museum before you arrive. You can find everything you need to know in our helpful guides below, and if you have any questions our friendly staff are happy to answer them when you visit!

General Tips

The Museum is open 10am - 4pm.

NSW School holiday (from Dec 20) and Wonderwater (22 Dec 2023 to 4 Feb 2024) 9:30am – 5pm.

We are closed on Christmas Day.

The museum includes 14 vessels, multiple exhibitions, kids’ activities* and a 3D cinema. Come early in the day to get the most from your visit. If you’ve only got a few hours, our staff can help you with a shorter schedule.

Find us in Darling Harbour, next to Pyrmont Bridge, close to Sydney’s CBD. Get here by train, tram, bus or ferry, or park nearby. Learn more.

We suggest walking clothes with sensible shoes, as the museum is spread out over a large indoor / outdoor space and our vessels have stairs and ladders that may be narrow or steep. Bring hats and sun protection to prevent sunburn! Forgot your hat? Pop into our store and grab one.

For visitor safety, when the temperature reaches 36° Celsius we close all vessels. If it looks like a it's going to be a hot day, come early and see the vessels first. Check with our friendly staff if you're unsure.

If extreme wet weather hits, we close all vessels for visitor safety. If it's looking like a rainy day, check with our friendly staff or call ahead on (02) 9298 3777. There's still lots of amazing things to enjoy inside the museum though, so don't let rain stop you from visiting!

The last boarding of our vessels is at 3:10pm (4.10pm during NSW school Holidays (from 20 Dec) and Wonderwater (22 Dec to 4 Feb)), however opening and closing times can vary.

Please check with our front of house team on arrival to ensure you are able to make the most of your experience. Vessels are also routinely scheduled for maintenance, so please call us on 02 8241 3777 to make sure your favourite is available.

Kids have a fantastic time at the museum, with lots of different things to do. However, they must be at least 90cm tall to board vessels. Prams and baby carriers are not permitted on board tall ships, warships and submarine.
