The Australian National Maritime Museum is excited to be counting down to 26 May when its iconic 1,700 square metre roof will be illuminated by a colourful new projection Inspired by the Sea during Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas. To celebrate, it is inviting festival goers to linger each Friday and Saturday evening during the festival in its picturesque waterfront precinct for a range of family friendly fun.

Visitors can kick back and relax at a special waterside pop up ‘glow bar’, grab a bite to eat from one of Sydney’s tastiest food trucks or enjoy family friendly activations including luminescent bubble artists, roving performers and glow in the dark face and body paints. They will also have the rare opportunity to witness the vivid harbour views from the top of its Cape Bowling Green Lighthouse.

Also on Friday and Saturday evenings the museum is offering families the opportunity to try out its Action Stations experience and enjoy the views from its rooftop ‘The Lookout’ free of charge.

From ‘The Lookout’ visitors can enjoy the new rooftop projection, with its enchanting synced soundtrack, and get a bird’s-eye view of the brilliant installations and spectacles that will illuminate Darling Harbour. Action Stations is an exciting way to experience the compelling history of the Royal Australian Navy through a high-tech and immersive journey (entry applies to Action Stations only. The adjoining Royal Australian Navy submarine and destroyer will be closed).

For Inspired by the, Sea students from the University of Technology, Sydney have taken inspiration from literature, art, music and the museum’s extensive maritime heritage collection to develop and animate a new roof projection of what the sea means to our island nation. It will run nightly from 6pm – 11pm from 26 May until 17 June 2017.

Unique Vivid Cruise

As part of its Vivid Sydney activities the museum is also offering the unique opportunity to experience a Vivid Cruise with a difference on 31 May, 6pm – 10pm. Climb on board the museum’s exclusively chartered boat to enjoy everything that Sydney Harbour has to offer as well as entry to the Taronga Zoo for its immersive Lights for the Wild event with its multimedia light sculptures. Tickets are $149 per adult, $129 per child or $489 per family and include entry to Taronga Zoo and canapes. For more information and to book visit www.anmm.gov.au/vivid.
